Deadlines, deadlines

It isn't difficult to tell when I'm working on a deadline: the dishes and laundry pile up; we eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner; my children acquire the grimy, neglected air of Dust Bowl orphans.
Although it feels like I've been working on a dozen different projects, there have really only been two, both due in the past ten days: a jacket for Interweave Crochet and a pullover for an upcoming book. (I also submitted a last-minute proposal to IK--keep your fingers crossed.) The crochet project really was a tight deadline (about three weeks, once I'd received the yarn). But I had, um, about three months to do the pullover and still managed to leave most of it to the last minute. I felt like I was back in high school when I'd stay up all night writing an essay that was due the next day despite having had a month to work on it--which is to say, I felt sort of stupid and really tired.
But they're DONE, and once I wash off the kids and feed them a good meal, I can get on with some of other projects. Aside from the closet full of personal WIPs (which don't have deadlines and therefore are rarely finished), Brigitte at Klose Knit has sort of commissioned me to design a sweater for her store, and I've been meaning to revamp a few older patterns and make them available for sale. And my classes start soon, which I am looking forward to.
But guess what? On my way to the post office yesterday to get the pullover in the mail, I stopped by the Klose Knit yard sale and Brigitte gave me a loom. It's a little table-top thingy. It's very cute. If I ever learn how to use it, I have plans to make scarves with all my leftover yarn.
Ah, a new hobby. Just what I needed.
