So apparently my blogging skills are up there with my correspondence skills. You wouldn't know it, but it's actually been fairly busy (even momentous) around here over the past couple of months.
For one thing, we found out that Darling Baby #3 is, in fact, Darling Daughter #3. So exciting! Not that I would have minded a boy either, or one of each, or anything really, but it's fun to know for sure (and I think the ultrasound was pretty conclusive--I doubt there will be any surprises on delivery). And I'm feeling very well prepared, having most of the clothes we'll need already on hand.
We took daughters #1 and #2 to the ultrasound with us. The six year old was quickly distracted by the cute decorations in the room and the chairs that could roll. The two year old, who has said from the first time I brought up the possibility of a younger sibling that she wanted a brother, was noncommittal at first, but on the way home a plaintive little voice from the back seat kept asking, "But can I PLEASE have a baby brother?" I think she's come round to the idea of a little sister, though a couple of times now she has referred to my belly as an "egg," making me wonder if she's hoping for something a bit more exotic than just plain human.
A couple of weeks after that, I turned, ahem, forty. It was a lot like turning 39 but without the champagne (I think the likelihood that I'll be pregnant on any other milestone birthdays is fairly slim). DH and I went out for dinner and a movie, Densha Otoko, which just happened to be playing as part of the Asian Film Series, which just happens to be sponsored by my former place of employment. Not surprisingly, we ran into several people we know. The movie itself was very cute--a little on the overly sweet side maybe, but certainly enjoyable.
Other than that, it's been the usual mid-autumn round of teaching, turning duct tape and nylons into Halloween costumes and eating too much leftover candy.
And I made a hat, which I'm pleased with. It's made from less than one skein of Malabrigo Silky Merino:
